The branch Hospital Quirónsalud Torrevieja has begun using electron-beam IORT with the IntraOp® Mobetron® for the treatment of various malignant tumors such as gastric cancer, pancreas, rectum, lung, gynecological, retroperitoneal sarcomas as an additional boost therapy to complement traditional external irradiation. Currently, oncologists there are providing their patients with early-stage breast cancer opportunity to enroll in a “One step therapy” program, allowing surgical removal of the tumor, electron radiation therapy and oncoplastic reconstruction of the breast at the same time in a single comprehensive procedure. Dr. Rosa María Cañón, head of the Oncology Unit of the Oncology Platform of this private hospital, explains that “the procedure in the operating room of the irradiation lasts 30 minutes, which replaces the 25 or 30 sessions of external irradiation of Conventional treatments.”
